The 130-hectare estate, surrounded by green hills, is situated in the Lake Trasimeno district, at the foot of Mount Solare.
It offers many interesting walks and hikes through its woods and olive groves. Its strategic location is ideal for pleasant day-visits to art cities, mediaeval castles and hamlets in the area.
TRASIMENO Castiglione del Lago, with its beautiful restored castle, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Tuoro sul Trasimeno (famous for the battle between Rome and the Carthaginian army lead by Hannibal in 217 BC, in which the Romans were defeated) are the main towns along the shores of Lake Trasimeno , and are equipped with tourist facilities (beaches, restaurants, playgrounds for children). Ferries leave from these towns for the two islands of Isola Maggiore, with its enchanting fishing village and old churches, and Isola Polvese, a nature reserve.
UMBRIAN HAMLETS Panicale retains the typical structure of a mediaeval castle, and from the top of a hill offers magnificent views of Lake Trasimeno (and a fresco by Il Perugino); Città della Pieve, beautiful town of Etruscan origin and place of birth of Pietro Vannucci, the 15th-century painter known as "Il Perugino"; Paciano, small and picturesque, still surrounded by 14th-century walls; the little-known sanctuary and castle of Mongiovino , the Castle of S.Apollinare, the Abbazia dei Sette Frati, and the pretty hamlets of Greppolischieto and Spina. These are only a few interesting sites near our property.
ART CITIES IN UMBRIA AND IN TUSCANY The town of Perugia, with its national art gallery, archaeological areas and "Fontana Maggiore"; the beautiful ancient town of Gubbio; Assisi, birth place of St Francis, with its Basilica with frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue; Chiusi, an important archaeological centre of Etruscan origin; and Orvieto, with its splendid Duomo, are all within an hour's distance from Colle San Paolo.
Cortona, with its Cathedral, Etruscan walls, and famous Etruscan museum; Pienza, a perfect 15th-century Renaissance town designed by the architect Rossellino, overlooking the Val d'Orcia Park; the picturesque Montepulciano, famous for its wine production, and the thermal baths of San Casciano dei Bagni, are other possible places of interest not far from our property.
LAZIO The Tuscia area, situated in northern Lazio, bordering with southern Tuscany and the Tyrrhenian sea, is rich in superb Etruscan necropolis, castles and palaces of mediaeval origin.
