THE ESTATE AND ITS HISTORY
Welcome to the Colle San Paolo Estate. Situated at the foot of Mount Solare, this organic farm is a family owned business. 130 hectares of pristine land on the hills surrounding Lake Trasimeno, characterised by green hills and valleys, streams, oak woods (80 hectares), old olive trees and tilled fields. At the centre of the property is "Muserale", the old manor house, with its 19th century garden and small chapel of St Apollonia. The house itself seems to be very ancient: the presence of underground passages decorated in stone high relief should date it back to the early Middle Ages. Signalled on a 17th century map of the area, in 1780 it was a small country monastery. On Mount Solare, the Regional Board of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Environmental Conservation has found archaeological remains of a human settlement dating to the Bronze Age. Our intention is, together with locals authorities, to uncover and enhance these finds as evidence of Umbria's ancient history and include this site in the archaeological routes of the area. Another interesting feature of our property are the ruins of an old water mill, besides the Molinella farmhouse, which is further reminder of the local traditional farming culture. Our agricultural activity is mainly concentrated on the production of Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Our property has over 2000 olive trees, many of which are centuries old. We are planning an enlargement of our olive groves in order to increase our olive oil production and sales. Our fields, where we alternatively grow wheat, barley, sunflowers and other crops, have also been converted to organic treatment in the past years.
